Bullet trace effect with raycast

Question

Has anyone a idea how to create a bullet trace effect when shooting a raycast? I tried it with a linerenderer, but it looks pretty weird.

I wouldn't recommend trail renderer for bullets, because it has some glitches when the distance is near zero, the vertices start freaking out. But line renderer is a really great method since the trail is defined by two vectors. After that, I would fade the material out to give the final touch.
