Dirty Lens Bloom

Recommended Posts

As requested, here you go guys. Should also work on mobile devices. I've included some textures but none of these textures are commercial use. You can use the shader for commercial use but you must use your own texture.

Turn up the threshold and decrease the dirtiness factor..

Can you post a screen shot including the values you have in the inspector?

Looking forward to using this. I've been looking for a free version for a while now all to no avail...

Thanks

Your welcome, this effect literally took me 30 seconds to make. I dont feel like people should have to pay for this anyway.

I just added about 3 or 4 lines of code to Unity's mobile bloom shader and script.

I love bloom. Its just that too many games overuse it and set the intensity to 1,000 and instantly think their game looks "next-gen". Theres an artistic way of going about bloom and being able to make it look good. I use it in all my photos but its so slight that its hard to see but it kinda just blends in.

Yeah, I agree with that. I'm going to try this thing out and see if I'm having any problems with it.

Alright thanks, an example of one of the most beautiful games that properly uses bloom is Journey. That game is amazing. They know how to use visuals to their advantage and use it as a form of art and not just some tool for making a game "next-gen".

Oblivion and Assassins Creed over-use it in the gameplay-trailers...

Alright, so the lens flare works, unlike themars. I think he has the incorrect settings or whatever. But all I did was increase threshold and brightness, then I increased blur spread and then set iterations to 3.

I will think of using this shader in Darkraze :)

ATI and Nvidia always has differences between their drivers where a graphics programmer may have to write separate versions of shaders. Its actually really common

Is it too much to ask for a new shader that doesn't include the glowing effect? Like, the same in the screenshot, but without the glowing effect and only the dirty lens.

So, all the other stuff in the shader is necessary? You don't have to remove it if it isn't too big of a change :P

Anyway, thanks for taking your time and making this shader for me :) I will try this out when I get home from school.
