This beta will be playable from today until next Sunday(the 20th). There is no embargo on the beta and streaming and/or recorded videos are allowed and encouraged.

Ok so, there are some notes about this beta, this is version 1.3.
 

Notes :
 

- Customization disabled for beta.
- Weather selection for the maps disabled for beta.
- Animation issues prevalent with guns and characters.
- Audio issues prevalent.
- Interface issues expected.
- Bugs and crashes expected.
- There are 4 maps in the beta, the final game has 8.
- There are 6 guns in the beta, the final game has between 12-15. 
- There are Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch game modes in the beta, the final game also has Gun Game and Domination. 
- There is a 100 user limit on the beta so if you are unable to get in just be patient.

The beta is provided as a standalone zip file and can be run as an application.

The download size for the zipped beta is around 1.5 GB.
 

Conclusion :
 

Keep in mind nothing is final and the game still has a few months of development to be done. If you are planning to join the beta please let me know how the experience goes and if you have any bugs to report you can do so in the discord or email me at grunt1914@gmail.com.
 

Please approach this public beta with an open mind and keep in mind that I am the sole developer on this project and as such issues and errors are to be expected. I hope you have fun!

Some notes i took while playing your beta version of the game
Those are just suggestions i have.. in the end its your game ! :-)
 

-the start countdown is missing some audio effect.. (i didnt notice it at first and thought i couldnt move :D)

-some sounds  have a really strong reverb effect (reloading the hellriegel for example)
-Weapon models are clipping through other models (Google for "Unity weapon clipping")
-the jump gravity is really "spacelike"

-i would love to see some Ambient Occlusion

-some models are floating or corners are

-many environment props are shiny when they should not be (weapon creates for example) (standard shader: smoothness or smth.)

-some objects have a weird "glow" to them looking at the stones on the ground with a wall in the background youll see it.

-the player can not walk up the stairs model.. maybe add fake collider instead of the generated one

-you cant controll your jump at all.. idk. it felt kinda weird maybe because of the space like gravity

Other than that i think its a great game! Amazing what one sole developer can achieve.

Really great game, I enjoyed playing on District and that other little map with all sort of corridors :d

Weapons are well balanced and that MP18 got a pew sound, just like the comment I wrote before lol.

The map layouts are really good too :P

 

At the other hand, here are some things I found. First bug appeared after second game. I had to restart the game when the bloom was like ultimate white. I don't know what went wrong but it could be a Unity3D issue. I don't know if it's true but for some reason other characters' eyes rendered black. Small problem: reload duration of secondary pistol is longer than it's animation.

And now comes the biggest issue. It happened just before I wanted stop playing after some TDMs. There's one spawnpoint that glitched the player to fall through the map (see attachment). I'm sorry but I cannot exactly tell what spawn was placed "too low".

 

 

Other stuff:

Sniper is a bit slow and two shot-kill but maybe it's okay.

My personal record was a 5 spree on that corridor map using the MP18 :)

I hosted a server for like 15 min but nobody joined around here

This picture below doesn't show wallhacks but floorhacks :lol:

Get ready for all out war with Grunt1914. 

 

Face off in multiple dangerous arena's with an arsenal of gear and weaponry to proclaim yourself the victor above all others! 

 

Change the weather! Its hard to see in the snow and slippery to run in the rain! Level the playing field! 

 

Play as a guile based sniper and make it impossible to spot you all the way to a heavy machine gunner cutting through opponents with ease, with everything in between.

Launching on all major release platforms on the PC.

This video features a few rounds of Beta game play that was privately carried out between a small group of players.

 

There are a variety of maps shown in the video, but in the full game there are many more. Each map can be played in any weather condition that the match host selects. 

 

The video also shows a big selection of the weapons in the game, but there are even more in the full release. 

 

The footage captured is not final but is near a release state.

This is the update for a new gun, the Lewis gun.

 

The Lewis gun is a classic in world war folklore and history, making it a must have for Grunt1914. The gun is of English origin and was mass produced in England during its early lifetime in 1914.

 

Using advanced cooling techniques the gun has a 47 round pan magazine. It has a incredible RPM of 600 in Grunt1914 and does allot of damage over a short period!

 

Using this new weapon you are sure to become the ultimate run and gun grunt out there on the battlefield! Heavy style!

This is the first update for a new map, called Freight. 

 

Freight is a smaller map than the rest of the maps in Grunt1914 and was designed specially for close quarters fighting. Shotguns, sub-machine guns and pistols will work best here, with rifles and machine guns having to take the back seat on this one. 

 

Freight has an assortment of crates, boxes, barrels and containers varying in sizes strewn about the area to provide cover for grunts in the heat of battle. The map is as the name suggests a stockpile of goods and weaponry stored away for the troops in the field. 

 

This update includes all the weather options for the map, with clear, rainy and snowy conditions available.

 

The map is due to change in the coming weeks based on player feedback.

In this update the main menu and specifically hosting of matches is altered extensively. 

 

You can now see an image of the map when selecting it and there are icons indicating whether you are playing in clear, rainy or snowy conditions. 

 

The login name is also now saved so that it isn't necessary to type it in every session.

 

There was some confusion among users when selecting maps before, this update aims to eradicate that issue. 

 

This feature is due to be altered further going forward.

In this new update ammo stations are introduced to the game. 

 

These are placed randomly and strategically around the map and are there to naturally provide the players with more ammo when they run out of bullets. Combat can be fast and brutal and munition stocks usually drop fast in the heat of battle.

 

They are intractable by simply walking near them, they then add a certain amount of ammo to your gun's available munitions. 

 

The stations are destroyed when depleted but re-spawn to the same location every 10 seconds once destroyed, ensuring the battle rages on!

This is the second update for a new map, called Express.

 

Express is by far the smallest map in the game and is suitable for very small team death-match games or as little as one on one death-match or gun-game rounds. Shotguns, sub-machine guns and pistols will work best here, with rifles and machine guns being too slow and heavy to really challenge on this map. 

 

Express has a multitude of boxes, crates, props and other such miscellaneous items strewn about on a train. The entire map is on a underground troop and supply train, moving between battles. The train contains a storage cart, and three barracks carts to explore and fight on. Access to the cockpit is locked. 

 

This map is only an interior and as such only has the clear weather option. 

 

This map is quite experimental at this stage, and as of yet it is unclear how players will find the experience. As such the map is due to change in the coming weeks based on player feedback.

In this update the advanced graphical selection and choices are vastly improved and expanded on. With this update all major post processing features that are used within Grunt1914 can now be tuned. 

 

These settings include Ambient Occlusion, AntiAliasing, ScreenSpaceReflection, MotionBlur, Bloom, ChromaticAberation and Vignetting. These all affects performance and fine tuning the settings will get each player the experience they desire in terms of quality vs. performance. 

 

This update aims to improve the experience for players that have difficulty running the game at maximum settings, by providing many more options to select or deselect. 

 

At the bottom of the graphics settings menu there is a ""performance bar", this shows the player what the current state of quality vs. performance is - represented by a color slider. All advanced settings are color coded to represent its level of performance. AmbientOcclusion for example is very intensive so its red, whereas Vignetting is very light, and is then green as a result. 

 

As is clearly represented above, there is a huge gap between maximum and minimum settings, hopefully this will help bridge the performance issues for some players.

 

This feature is due to be altered further going forward.

This is the update for a new gun, the Hotchkiss M1914.

 

The Hotchkiss M1914 is a lesser known weapon in world war history, making it an interesting addition for Grunt1914. The gun is of French origin and was mass produced for the French military for use in overseas colonies.

 

Using gas cooling techniques the gun has a 30 round strip magazine. It has a massive RPM of 550 in Grunt1914 and does medium damage over a short period. 

 

This is a great weapon for all round use on the battlefield. Its effective for close, medium and even long ranged combat with its overall ammunition capacity and effective fire rate.

This is the update for a new gun, the Parker VH 1916 sawed off shotgun.

 

The Parker VH 1916 is a very scarcely elected weapon in world war history, making it a very interesting addition for Grunt1914. The gun is of American origin and was barely used in the Great war.

 

The Parker brothers made all their guns by hand and was of exceptional quality. All of their guns were made to the same excellent quality. 

 

The Parker VH 1916 has double triggers, 16 inch barrels instead of the usual 30 inch ones and delivers some serious firepower. 

 

With its short range but massive power the weapon was perfect for defense inside the trenches of the massive battles of the war. Sawed of shotguns made great replacements as secondary firearms due to their concealment and agility capabilities.

Grenades have now officially been added to the game! 

 

Grenades are the newest and an especially exiting addition to Grunt1914! They can be used either in the traditional sense as "quick throw" items by pressing the mapped key or the can be selected as a weapon slot. 

 

This update includes three grenades that can be used at any level. The update introduces explosive grenades as well as smoke grenades, more grenade types will be added into the game in the future. 

In this update the three grenades that are made available are :

 

- The MKII Grenade
- The MKI Smoke grenade
- The Stielhandgranate 

This update will allow for many new ways to play the maps in the game with any game mode, and will lead to some tense and exciting battles!

 

This feature is due to change in the coming weeks based on player feedback and internal testing.

Melee combat has now officially been added to the game! 

 

Melee combat is the newest and a very exiting addition to Grunt1914! They can be used by being selected as a weapon slot. 

 

This update includes two melee weapons that can be used at any level. The update introduces the possibility of a range of weapons that might be bought into the game in the near future. 

 

In this update the two weapons that are made available are :

 

- The M1916 Shovel
- The M1829 Artillery sabre

 

This update will allow for many new ways to play the maps in the game with any game mode, and will lead to some tense and exciting battles!
