Guide To Extracting Legacy Animations

Recommended Posts

Some of us, including myself, don't like visual programming, visual animating, visual editors, etc... We prefer to do everything using a programming language. Here is a simple guide to extracting legacy animations to use with the legacy animation system (Animation Component).

  1. Import the rig the contains the animations you want into unity.
  2. Click on the rig that you imported and in the import settings, change the animation type to legacy.
  3. If you want to keep the animations inside the rig, your done, if you want them to be unattached to rig, continue.
  4. Click on the arrow beside the rig to open it up so you can see the animations contained in the rig.
  5. Right click the animation you want and press CNTRL+D to duplicate the animation.
  6. once you duplicate it, rename the newly created animation to whatever you want.
  7. If you don't need the rig anymore, you can now delete the rig.
  8. And viola, you've now extracted a legacy animation file from an imported rig.
